Steffi Design

My business incorporates woven textile design and project management for home build and interiors, organising and designing bespoke furniture and fittings to create the desired theme for the client. The business was running at 70% house projects and 30% fabric designs with the aim to make it to 50% house projects and 50% fabrics in two years. With the majority of my projects taking place in Asia and fabric development and commissions being made in Scotland the spectrum was quite wide (but planned).

The tsunami meant that 80% of my business dealing went overnight, which had an emotional and physical (financial) bearing on the business.

Time to re-evaluate, so I asked Janet Ross to come in.

Any good plan can be rocked and one has to stay true to its core elements.

By talking through key issues which I had identified before the meeting, it allowed for an independent view. A stepping out of the box, an impartial view, straight to the point yet sensitive at the same time, and with Janet that means trust, respect and confidentiality.

At the end of the meeting we had produced a dossier to look over, and to return to over the next six months. By identifying the issues and committing it to paper I made a commitment to myself. A two hour consolidated session was important as this allowed for time, reflection and direct speak. I feel that it is important to plan these sessions into the year, four two hour sessions every three months.

Friends and family can’t always be the ear you need but an independent sees it as it is and tells it as it is, its not personal its business.

Attending the Sole Traders meetings has meant informative speakers, a chance to network with people I have respect for and I always take something informative from the meeting that can be applied to my everyday business running.
